Prosecco Rosè: a novelty not to be missed

In the millesimato version since 2020

Do you like rosé wine? Then why not go for a Prosecco rosé! In 2020, Prosecco DOC finally came out wearing the pink jersey. Indeed, although this new type of bubbly has only recently been included as a regulated wine (“Prosecco spumante rosé millesimato” is its official name), it has had immediate success, explaining why so many leading wineries are already investing in its production. The rosé typology is not permitted within the two Valdobbiadene and Asolo DOCGs, thus we can only ever speak of a Prosecco rosé DOC. So, to make this version, in addition to the traditional majority of Glera grapes (85%), the producers have the option of adding 10 to 15% of Pinot Noir.

Versatile and with an unmistakable taste

Rosé wine has long been considered a bit like Cinderella: being a “middle road” between white and red, it had not been well received at Italian tables. That said, its consumption has increased significantly over recent years. This has largely been thanks to young people who, as evidenced by research carried out at Vinitaly 2017, clearly prefer it over whites and reds as an aperitif and to enjoy during trendy apri-dinners. And when it comes to Prosecco Rosè, its success was of no surprise, considering its unmistakable taste and the fact that it is even more versatile than its white equivalent. If you are in doubt over what wine to serve for a meal, at a party or celebration – perhaps a red would seem too strong and a white too light – then a Prosecco Rosé is the ideal choice, and will surely go down a treat.

Perfect at the table and for aperitifs

Prosecco Rosè maintains the typical fruity scent of its white equivalent and it contains a low level of tannin, the substance conferring the unmistakable bitter tones to red wine, not always appreciated by all wine drinkers. Rosé wine, on the other hand, is tasty and delicate at the same time, lively and fresh (it is served at the same temperature as whites), much like the generation of young people who adore it so much. Furthermore, you do not need to be a connoisseur to appreciate its qualities and flavour, and this is precisely the reason why it is loved so much by its consumers.
